All About the Job

Family Concierge is partnering with a musical family in Irondequoit, New York to hire an After-School Nanny for their two children. The afternoon runs three to seven: snack, homework, downtime, and the kind of genuine engagement that makes a clever eleven-year-old forget he was planning to test you.

Mom is an at-home music teacher, so lessons need quiet and the rest of the house runs best on a routine that is kept, not improvised. The family prizes experiences over things, and the parents are candid about their children and clear about what they need: they have had au pairs before this, so expectations are explicit and the role is treated as real work.

The family parents gently and regulation-first, and they are looking for a caregiver who works the same way: calm redirection over power struggles, especially with a son who knows how smart he really is. In summer the role keeps its rhythm and trades homework for camp runs and Seabreeze days.

What You'll Do

  • Run the Monday–Thursday afternoon, 3 to 7: arrival, snack, homework, and unhurried time with both kids

  • Hold the household routine and keep things quiet-side while piano lessons are taught at home

  • Host the Tuesday and Wednesday friend hour: supervise, mediate, and redirect as needed

  • Meet testing behavior with calm, consistent redirection; this family is regulation-first, never punishment-first

  • Drive for camp runs, activities, and summer outings, Seabreeze included

  • Keep both parents in the loop with brief, plain end-of-day handoffs

  • Bring your own ideas for the afternoon: games, music, time outside

Who We're Looking For

You are unrattled by a sharp eleven-year-old, and not fooled by one either. You can hold a routine without turning into a sergeant, you read a room quickly, and you treat a power play as information rather than an insult. Working in a home where a parent is present but genuinely unavailable does not faze you; you know when to interrupt and when to handle it yourself.

Beyond that, the right fit brings:

  • Real experience with school-aged kids and tweens; classroom, behavior-support, or paraprofessional experience is a genuine plus here

  • Calm, consistent authority: gentle does not mean permissive

  • Comfort working independently while a parent teaches at home

  • A reliable vehicle and a clean driving record for camp runs and outings

  • Afternoons free Monday through Thursday, through the summer and into the school year

Standard for our placements: CPR and First Aid (or willingness to obtain), reliable transportation, and a sincere intention to make a long-term commitment to the family.

Why You'll Love This Job

Sixteen steady hours, on the books, at up to $30 an hour, with your mornings and Fridays your own. The work itself is the good kind: two musical kids, one of them an eleven-year-old who will keep you sharp, in a household that runs on routine and good humor. These parents have employed caregivers before and it shows. Expectations are clear, communication is direct, and the person in this role is respected as a colleague in the children's lives, not an extra set of hands. Summer looks like camp runs and Seabreeze afternoons. The right person will not be bored.
